1. Nature of Service

MedCite is an AI-assisted medical evidence search, synthesis and reference service. It helps users search, summarise and verify information from biomedical literature, clinical guidelines, review articles and other trusted medical sources.

MedCite is designed for professional reference, research, teaching and educational use. It provides source-linked summaries and citation trails to help users navigate medical evidence more efficiently. MedCite is intended as a reference tool, not a substitute for clinical judgment.

2. Publicly Available and Lawfully Accessible Sources

MedCite is based on publicly available and lawfully accessible medical information, including indexed biomedical literature, abstracts, clinical guidelines, review articles, society publications and other accessible medical reference sources.

MedCite does not access private medical records, electronic health records, hospital systems, closed institutional databases, subscription-only content behind paywalls, confidential documents or non-public patient information, unless a separate institutional integration or data-processing agreement explicitly allows it.

Source literature, publisher content, guideline documents and external databases remain the property of their respective authors, publishers, institutions or rights holders. MedCite provides references and links where available, but users are responsible for complying with any applicable access, copyright, licensing and usage restrictions.

3. Intended Users

MedCite is intended for healthcare professionals, medical researchers, biomedical scientists, medical students, educators and institutional users.

By using MedCite, you confirm that you are using the Service for professional reference, research, educational or institutional knowledge purposes. Users remain responsible for interpreting the information appropriately and verifying it against original sources, current guidelines and local institutional protocols.

4. Intended Purpose - Not a Medical Device

MedCite is intended as a medical evidence search, synthesis and reference service. It is not intended to diagnose, predict an individual patient's condition, prescribe treatment, perform triage, or drive patient-specific clinical decisions.

• It is not a clinical decision support system that drives patient-specific clinical actions.
• It is not a diagnostic system or differential diagnosis generator.
• It is not a prescribing, dosing or medication selection system.
• It is not an emergency, triage or urgent-care tool.

5. No Emergency Use

MedCite must not be used in emergencies, urgent care situations, triage, or time-critical clinical decision-making. The Service is not designed for real-time emergency assessment and may return incomplete, outdated or irrelevant information. Urgent care should follow local institutional emergency protocols and in-person clinical evaluation pathways.

6. Source Verification and Limitations

MedCite uses retrieval and AI-assisted summarisation to help users navigate medical evidence. Outputs may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, incomplete source coverage, or misinterpretation of source nuance. Users must independently verify all information against original sources before relying on it.

The Service:

• May not index every relevant publication, guideline or source
• May not include the most recent publications
• May prioritise sources based on retrieval and ranking algorithms
• May summarise evidence incompletely or incorrectly
• Does not replace systematic review methodology, formal guideline development, peer review, or expert appraisal
• Does not guarantee that retrieved sources are complete, current, or sufficient for a given purpose

7. No Patient-Specific Recommendations

Users must not rely on MedCite as the sole basis for:

• Diagnosis or differential diagnosis
• Treatment selection or modification
• Prescribing or dosing decisions
• Admission, discharge, referral, or follow-up decisions
• Any patient-specific clinical management

MedCite may respond to patient-specific questions with general evidence summaries only. Any such response is informational and must not be interpreted as individual medical advice.

8. User Input and Patient Data

Users should not enter directly identifiable patient information into MedCite. This includes names, civil registration numbers, addresses, contact details, medical record numbers, or other information that can directly identify an individual patient.

MedCite applies automated redaction to obvious identifiers before evidence retrieval, but automated redaction may be incomplete and is not a substitute for de-identification by the user.

If an institution wishes to use MedCite with confidential, internal, or patient-related data, this requires a separate written agreement, appropriate legal basis, data processing terms, and technical safeguards.

9. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service for:

• Unlawful, illegal, fraudulent, or harmful activities
• Emergency medical decision-making or patient-specific care decisions
• Uploading or entering identifiable patient data without an appropriate legal basis
• Hate, harassment, violence, or political manipulation
• Spam, malware, scraping, or abusive automated use
• Reverse engineering, excessive automated querying, or attempts to bypass rate limits
• Republishing source content or generated outputs in a way that violates copyright, database rights, or licensing terms
• Presenting MedCite outputs as independently verified medical advice without appropriate source review

10. Intellectual Property and User Licence

MedCite, including its interface, software, metadata structure, and platform design, is owned by or licensed to the operators of MedCite. Source literature, guidelines, abstracts, publisher content, and external database records remain the intellectual property of their respective authors, publishers, institutions, and rights holders.

Subject to the restrictions above, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use generated outputs for ordinary professional, educational and research purposes, including copying answers into notes, exporting to PDF, RIS or BibTeX, and using content for teaching or research. You must still verify outputs, respect third-party source rights, and comply with applicable law.

You may not:

• Scrape, systematically collect, or resell access to the Service
• Remove attribution or represent generated text as your own independent work where it is not
• Rely on any representation that MedCite owns or can license the underlying source material
• Use generated outputs in a way that violates copyright, database rights, or licensing terms

MedCite does not guarantee that generated text is free of third-party rights. Users are responsible for ensuring that any copying, redistribution, publication, or reuse of source material or generated outputs complies with applicable copyright, licensing, attribution, and database rights.

11. Availability and Beta Access

MedCite may be offered free of charge during a beta or early-access phase. Features, limits, pricing, availability, and access conditions may change over time.

We may modify, suspend, limit, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, including during maintenance, development, or infrastructure changes.

12. Anonymous Sessions, Rate Limits and Abuse Prevention

MedCite uses a secure anonymous session identifier to associate feedback, published articles, and rights requests with a browser session. We apply rate limits and other technical measures to prevent abuse and ensure service availability. We may block, suspend, or restrict access for misuse, excessive automated use, or violation of these Terms.

13. Publishing and Public Sharing

Only Review answers can currently be published. Publishing creates a public URL and may make the article discoverable by search engines.

• Publishing is an explicit user action. You decide when to publish.
• The published article, answer, and potentially the underlying question become publicly accessible.
• Eligible pages may be indexed by search engines.
• You confirm that published content contains no patient identifiers, confidential information, or unlawful material.
• MedCite may refuse, hide, de-index, or remove content that violates these Terms or applicable law.
• You can request deletion of published content at any time.
• Removing a MedCite page cannot guarantee immediate removal from search-engine caches or third-party copies.
• You grant MedCite the limited licence necessary to host, reproduce, display, and technically process the published article.

14. Third-Party Services and External Links

MedCite may display links to third-party sources, databases, guidelines, and websites. We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, or privacy practices of third-party services. Your use of external links is at your own risk and subject to the third party's terms.

15. Feedback

By submitting feedback, ratings, or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free licence to use that feedback to improve the Service. Feedback is not personal medical advice and should not identify patients.

16. Export Availability and Format Limitations

MedCite may offer export features such as PDF, RIS, BibTeX, or JSON. Export availability and formats depend on your mode, the type of answer, and the sources available. We do not guarantee that any particular format or export will be available for every answer. Export features are provided for your convenience and do not replace independent source verification.

17. No Permanence Guarantee for Unpublished Answers

Unpublished answers and search history are not guaranteed to remain available. Generated answers are cached for a limited time and may be deleted automatically. Use the publishing feature if you want a persistent, publicly accessible article.

18. Age and Professional-Use Expectations

MedCite is intended for professional, educational, and research use. Users should be able to understand the limitations of AI-generated evidence summaries and should not rely on MedCite for personal medical decisions without professional advice. If you are using MedCite as a consumer rather than a professional, the service remains informational and does not provide personal medical advice.

19. Limitation of Liability

MedCite is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the creators and operators of MedCite accept no liability for:

• Clinical, research, educational, or institutional decisions made based on Service outputs
• Errors, omissions, inaccuracies, or outdated information
• Incomplete or irrelevant sources
• Misinterpretation of generated summaries
• Outcomes resulting from reliance on Service outputs
• Unavailability, interruption, data loss, or technical failure of the Service
• Third-party content, external sources, or websites linked from the Service

Nothing in these Terms limits liability where such limitation is not permitted under applicable law, including mandatory consumer rights.

20. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page. Continued use of MedCite after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

21. Governing Law and Consumer Rights

These Terms are governed by Danish law. Any disputes shall be resolved by the courts of Denmark, where applicable.

If you are a consumer using MedCite outside a professional context, nothing in these Terms removes or limits any mandatory rights or venues available to you under the consumer protection law of your country of residence. Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy.
